Corinth, MS- Old Roots, New Blooms.

Nestled in the corner of the Magnolia state, thrives the history-ridden town of Corinth, Ms. This old southern town is on edge of a new and hipper era. These are the locals, whose voices seem drenched in honey, and what they have to say about their golden town.

When I met Roxanne she was working in the upstairs coffee bar at a local favorite, Pizza Grocery. After ordering the usual iced coffee, I decided to ask Roxanne a few questions.

THB:" In your opinion , what makes Corinth such a classic?"

Roxanne: " I think it's the rustic feel!"

Corinth brings a rustic vibe to the table. Places like Pizza Grocery offer a warm and vintage aura with dimly lit rooms where the voices of the locals bounce off old brick walls and laughter lingers in the air , twirling around the old wooden beams on the ceiling.

Across the room, the band begins to set up. They will become the soundtrack to a warm southern evening as people begin to file in the doors. People gather to hear the three musicians, sipping their wine and enjoying a classic southern night in Corinth. Pizza Grocery is one of the only venues that offer a monthly live session for the public to enjoy for free.

Luke, Bryan, and Rice get ready to play their set.

THB: "What do you feel makes Corinth such a classic? "

Bryan: " There is so much history here , and not just the Civil War. There is music history. The buildings here are full of history too and when you're in one you can feel all of that."

TBH: " What can you personally bring to the scene of Corinth?"

Bryan: " Original music, not many towns have what Pizza Grocery offers. They sponsor and pay for this all, I come down and bring new musicians with me from all over."

Next we visit the oldest active pharmacy in Mississippi. Borroum's Drug Store opened in 1865. It houses it's own soda fountain and serves a southern favorite- the slug burger.Danny Morris , 68 and a native to North MS, shares his memory of the famous store.

" I was barely tall enough to see over the counter. I sat on the red stools and enjoyed a tuna sandwich and coke. It was my favorite place to spend time with my older brother , sitting on those stools still makes me feel young and nostalgic."

I decided to ask the workers what they loved most about working in such a historic staple of downtown Corinth. Cara, Morgan, and Brittany would all agree the people make their jobs fun. " We get people from everywhere in here! Africa, England, Australia- they all come just to enjoy the store." , the girls say. " Corinth just has a hometown feel to it" , says Morgan. This Mississippi town is sure to make you feel welcome no matter where you are from.

Just off the square, beautiful homes once occupied by generals and commanders rest under the shade of large magnolia trees. These homes mimic dollhouses and beckon you to wonder of the history formed between the walls. Corinth is home to the so-called " Cat house", A castle built in 1908 by B.F. Liddon. Liddon constructed his home with beautiful Corinthian columns and materials imported from New York. The wonderful castle began to attract strays after being vacant for so long. Now the home gives the neighborhood a mystical and royal aura, where strays still gather to play in the towering castle of Corinth.

Two girls pose in front of a mural downtown. The girls enjoy all of the photo opportunity downtown provides. There is always room to create art on these streets.

The girls enjoy weekends in town, relishing in the things Corinth has to offer.

"whether you wanna grab a meal with your friends, take a walk and enjoy the view of the buildings towering above, or pose for photo- Corinth is the place to do it." - kendall , left.

Here I am, Enjoying some fresh guacamole at V. Taco.- a cool shop and margarita bar in downtown. You can soak up some sun on their rooftop patio and enjoy specialty tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. The scene is always buzzing with the chatter of people who talk over drinks ordered from the bar upstairs.

" It's just a good Friday night hang! We come here and enjoy some good food and good times. The " bang bang shrimp" taco is where it's at!" , says a regular at V. Taco.

V. Taco is just one of the hip places you can find in downtown. I find that most people aren't even aware of places like this in Corinth. Piper and Makuyan , two friends who relaxed on a bench nearby, agree that our town would grow more if it was advertised better.

#enjoyCorinth. Come see what this southern secret of a town has to offer. From the historic district to the newer dives , from the old roots to the new blooms, Corinth has something for everyone!
